The West Memphis Three

Aractus 10, November, 2011

Ever since I saw the first documentary – Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills, I began following this case. The case was simple, there was a triple-homicide with three eight year old boys found dead, and the “WM3” were convicted of the crimes. Echols, who was 18, was sentenced to death, the other two – Baldwin and Misskelley were sentenced to life in prison. I had no idea, and it came as a huge shock, that the three would be released this year.

To anybody out there who thinks that the Broad Arrow Café massacre was an open and shut case, think again. I will be coming back to it before this series on conspiracy ends. Martin Bryant was capable of committing murder; but he had no motive and the FN-FAL murder weapon can in no way be linked to him. More on this to come…

The cases are so similar there is little doubt in my mind left about the facts.

The WM3 were convicted of the murders, and Misskelley gave a confession. One far more involved than anything Martin Bryant said. Yet it was still a false confession.

New DNA evidence excluded all three from the scene of the crime, and as such the three would have been granted new trials to begin next year. Instead, the Judge overturned their original convictions in a plea-bargain which allowed the three to enter a plea of guilty while maintaining their innocence (in other words, surrendering their right to a trial) in return for being sentenced to time served; and after 18 years in prison all three were released that same day.

I’m so happy for the WM3. I would like to see the real killer – in all probability one of the victims parents Terry Hobs – brought to justice for the crimes.

What a conspiracy. The police fingered them, the original judge – David Barnett – went along with it, there was no evidence, only hearsay evidence presented to the court to convict the three, how sad, low and pathetic. They have served a combined time of 54 years for a crime somebody else committed.

A big recommendation out there to everyone to watch the amazing documentary by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky – Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills. They later made the documentary Metallica: Some Kind of Monster. Case info is at http://wm3.org/
